"And what makes this so depressing for us is that when Ryan Murphy first decided to address the lives of gay teens, he started off in the best way possible: by giving them something to dream about. When Blaine sang “Teenage Dream” to Kurt, we were inspired to write probably the most heartfelt thing we’ve ever written on this blog […] What happened, Ryan? When did you decide giving gay kids the message that their lives had value and potential wasn’t the way to go and defining them as victims was a great idea? When did this show become so determined NOT to be fun or uplifting or aspirational anymore? How many times do we have to watch the tears fill Kurt’s eyes? And boy do we miss the Kurt who talked like a bitchy, angry 16-year-old rather than the Kurt we have now, who talks like a 40-year-old grief counselor."

seriously. this entire show is now about how terrible it is to be gay. the only happy, fulfilling parts of being gay on this show (klaine and brittana’s stable, supportive relationships) are shoved into the background in favor of creys and drama. why are they doing this? why are they reinforcing the idea the very same idea they tried to refute last season: “that if you’re gay, sorry, but your life is going to suck”?? how is this a show to look to for hope and empowerment and reinforcement that happiness IS possible?? fuck this show.

Because then Kurt and Santana (and Blaine and Brittany and god damn even Karofsky) would be allowed to get angry at some of the bullshit thrown at them. Because they would feel some of what Artie talked about in 3.11. Because they would then have agency. And a queer person with agency, especially say non-conforming gender expression Kurt Hummel (or women for that matter) with agency is scary to viewers. See, Post-Theatriacily.
And because it’s fucking lazy writing. It’s falling back on tropes that were considered outdated and offensive during the AIDS crisis. Karofsky’s story line is something out of the 80s. Blaine and Brittanny are barely there entitles, and Kurt has become the noble suffering Queer Fairy character there to guide the straight kids/others to enlightenment while quietly suffering in silence resigned to his tea and sympathy 50s outsider half-life.
